Pray For Rosie

Update – 4/29

The first of two appointments today began with Rosie's neuro surgeon. He adjusted her shunt and removed all her staples from last weeks surgery. We will have an appointment with him in about a month to get a new CT scan and discuss any possible changes or observations. Any benefit Rosie might receive from the adjustments to the shunt today should become evident over the next few days. In the afternoon we consulted a foot specialist who may do minor surgery on Rosie's heals. This surgery should allow her feet  to move and contract normally for  future recovery and current therapy. Rosie will have a day trial of baclofen medicine tomorrow to see if she is a good candidate for the baclofen pump; a small device surgically implanted to help her arms and to some degree her legs and feet with tightness. Rosie is still smiling with me, when she's not too tired, and also when there is laughter around. Emily is doing great and has been spending time on a new swing with her 8 month old cousin, Brooke.

We were very blessed to find the perfect wheelchair accessible van at an incredible price from some really great people over the weekend. This will be a tremendous help for future appointments and when we travel as a family.

On behalf of Rosie and Emily I thank all of you deeply for your continued prayer and support.

God bless..........

Update – 4/22

Today Rosie had a CT scan performed and the neurologist discovered that the swollen ventricles in her brain are about the same size as they were prior to her shunt surgery. This is a good thing because that means we truly haven't seen whether or not the shunt will improve any of her faculties. Her neurologist will set a date next week to re caliberate the shunt to allow the fluid to drip quicker through her system.

Her therapist are in agreement that she seems to be tracking by sound better than before. Rosie has also had her trach changed which seems to bring her more comfort......

Update – 4/21

I finally had the opportunity to speak with Rosie's doctor today about where we go from here. There are a few possible options we may pursue that are all contingent on the other. First Rosie will get a CT scan this week to see if the shunt is working properly or if it needs to be re-calibrated so that it will work properly. Most patients who receive a shunt have immediate results; unfortunately I have not noticed any changes in Rosie. Rosie will receive botox shots in her arms to help with the spasticity, possibly a baclofen pump in her spine to help with the spasticity in her feet, and/or surgery to her achilles tendon to loosen the contraction in case the baclofen medicine doesn't work. There will be a day trial of the baclofen medicine before a surgery is ordered for a pump just to make sure the medication works and she doesn't have any adverse reaction to it. Rosie should have her trach changed this week as well as have a few medications changed to see if she reacts better during her daily therapies.

I have noticed that Rosie will smirk at certain things I do and even slightly smile, although we are still uncertain whether or not Rosie can see or what all she understands. I believe she gets better day by day, but only time will tell. Injuries such as Rosie's require undetermined amounts of time for the brain to mysteriously and incredibly find a way to restore itself. Rosie is scheduled to finally come home on May 15th, however that day may change based on the paths we choose from the before mentioned surgeries.

Emily is doing well, she finally turned all the way over from her back to her stomach all by herself. I have had ample help from family making sure she is well taken care of and extremely loved upon. Thank all of you for continued thoughts and prayer........God Bless

Pictures Wanted

Saturday's benefit was a huge success, and we'd like to thank everyone who came out for Tony, Rosa and Emily as well as those who donated time, services or items. We estimate that we had between 960-1000 people at the event.

I'll be putting together a picture gallery of the event on this site similar to the one that's already on here. For this, I need pictures from anyone who was there on Saturday. If you'd like to share your pictures, please email them to Thanks!
